Disney has always been popular in every household, but over the past week, it has become a huge talked about subject across social media as the new Disney+ streaming service was released in the UK on 24th March.
Disney+ features hundreds of titles including timeless and reimagined classics, Pixar animations, Marvel superhero movies, Star Wars and also includes some documentary series. It truly has something for everyone and is perfect for filling up those spare hours of the day.
We have put together a list of 12 Disney+ titles that we think any animal lover should watch.
There are a huge amount of documentaries about pets and the animal kingdom available to watch on Disney+. Here’s just a selection of our favourites:
Giants of the Deep Blue [National Geographic – 2018]
This is a 45-minute long documentary that takes you beneath the surface of the sea. You meet whales and dolphins and learn about their social behaviour, communication and how we can all help to keep the numbers of these fascinating creatures up in the wild.
Great Migrations [National Geographic – 2010]
This 6-episode series features some incredible animal migrations that take place around the planet. It took 3 years to make and features red crabs, monarch butterflies, sperm whales and much more.
Dr K’s Exotic Animal E.R. [National Geographic – 2014-2018]
This series goes behind the scenes of Dr Susan Kelleher’s exotic animal hospital in South Florida. The series sees her treat all kinda of interesting animals such as; foxes, ferrets, primates and reptiles.
Pick of the Litter [Disney – 2020]
This is a brand new Disney+ original series that looks into the lives of Labrador puppies that are training to be guide dogs for the blind. There are currently two episodes, with more to be released very soon.
Bears [Disney – 2014]
This feature length documentary allows you to share a year in the life of an endearing bear family learning to live life to the fullest in Alaska. It really gives you an insight into the struggles they go through on a yearly basis, including preparing for hibernation.
How Dogs Got Their Shapes [National Geographic – 2016]
There are hundreds of dog species, all looking very different. This 45-minute documentary shines a light on a variety of canine shapes and explains how they have played a role in evolution, history and behaviour of distinct dog breeds.

Lady and the Tramp [Disney – 2019]
We have all seen the original version of this Disney love story, but they have recently launched this live-action remake that is exclusive to Disney+. A must watch in our opinion!
The Lion King Series [Disney – 1994-2019]
This family classic addresses how a lion pride works in the wild, and puts it into a family friendly story. Disney+ has the original 1994 The Lion King as well as The Lion King 1 1/2, The Lion King II, and the 2019 live-action remake of the first film.
Dumbo [Disney and Tim Burton – 2019]
This new reimagined version expands on the classic Dumbo animation. This film takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. Have the tissues at the ready!
Dr. Dolittle 
This comedy starring Eddie Murphy, sees a doctor discover that he has an ability to communicate with animals. They start to take over his life and create all sorts of chaos for him and his family.
Togo [Disney – 2019]
Togo is an untold true story set in 1925. It tells the adventures of champion dogsled trainer Leonhard Seppala and his lead sled dog, Togo. It is an emotional story that shows the true bond of humans and dogs.
Zootopia [Disney – 2016]
This family friendly animated comedy tells the story of an all-animal city. The animals all have human-like jobs, including Judy Hopps, who is the first bunny to be a police officer.
